GSA is holding its annual Rep Retreat in Temecula, California this year! New and old departmental reps are invited to join us on 24 October for an informative and fun event. Not only will you be given resources for your department (such as available funds for socials and events), but you can enjoy the company of other reps in Southern California’s wine country! If you cannot go to the entire event, we encourage you to attend the morning session at UCSD. [Schedule below]

WHAT:THANKS TO NEW MANAGEMENT AT PORTER'S PUB WE WILL EAT AND BE MERRY! Free Beverages! BBQ Chicken, Beef Ribs, Pork Ribs, Vegetarian BBQ, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Baked Beans, Coleslaw, Caesar Salad, and Macaroni and Cheese... ALL SOUTHERN STYLE. A Dance Party. WHEN: 4PM 'til Midnight. The California Society of Health-System Pharmacists aka CSHP located at Skaggs School of Pharmacy delightfully brings you an exciting event: Culture-fusion: A Fundraiser Night.  This event will be showcasing performances by talented artists which includes dancers from the middle east,  modern-culture fashion show modeled by San Diego's beautiful models as well as well as authentic cuisine selected from the best restaurants in San Diego. This event will be held in the Price Center East Ball Room. Come prepared to represent your culture, as well as to be entertained while helping us raise money for a good cause.

Sixth College Chocolate Festival

The Sixth College Chocolate Festival has been a Spring quarter tradition
since 2004 and is sponsored by the Sixth College Community Board. In
2008, the event attracted nearly 700 guests from across the University.
The 2009 festival takes place on Friday, May 1, 2009, from 3:00–
6:00 p.m. in the Sixth College Dogg House, and will include chocolate
fountains, lots of sweet and savory dipping items, music, live
entertainment, and activities for all ages.

Stress, depression, and suicidal thoughts are things that many UC San
Diego students experience. However, there is a way to cope with these
issues, while breaking down the stigma of mental health, and leading a
well-balanced, successful lifestyle.

The Wellness Center is sponsoring an important speaker, Ross Szabo, to
talk about mental health and wellness issues as part of our emotional
wellness and suicide prevention efforts.

"Democrazation in Iraq, China and the World" Student Event, Public Lecture

Larry Diamond helps us understand why and how democracy actually progresses in his new book The Spirit of Democracy: The Struggle to Build Free Societies throughout the World. The desire for democracy runs deep, he shows, even in very poor countries and in the turbulent Middle East. And through expanding economic freedom, civic mobilization, and the development of "liberation technology,"even seemingly entrenched regimes like those in Iran and China could well become democracies within a generation.

'Common Sense' Self-Defense Workshop

Free and open to graduate students and their significant others. Workshop led by staff from SARC. A brief workshop that takes a holistic approach to self-defense. This workshop teaches you the basics of self-defense, including: learning to become more assertive, staying aware of your surroundings, as well as very basic physical self-defense tips.  This workshop also covers how to find the best self-defense course that suits your needs.  Finally, we share campus and community resources that offer victim support services.
