Internal Housing Coordinating Committee

The Affiliated Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) has not convened since March 18th, 2009; leaving a vacuum of student organization regarding housing issues. To fill this vacuum, we have created this Internal Housing Coordinating Committee, consisting solely of grad students, with the following non-exhaustive list of roles:

  • coordinate appeals to housing decisions to prevent them getting lost in the mail
  • provide suggestions to housing administration on ways to minimize policy change impact on residents
  • submit periodic reports to housing administration suggesting improvements in their policies and procedures including among other items:
    • construct propane storage cages at least 10ft from residential buildings or recall prohibition of charcoal so that residents can BBQ without violating EH&S policies on BBQing and fire codes
    • establish a walk-through checkout procedure so that departing residents can leave assured that they will receive their entire deposit
    • require departing residents' financial responsibility for returning mailbox keys so that new residents don't have to pay the $50 new key fee
  • provide access to draft and accepted policies governing UCSD Affiliated Housing
  • otherwise act as liaison to moderate interactions between residents and housing administration to avoid litigation (small claims, etc) and violations of CA renter's laws.

This committee holds the same amount of authority over these issues as the previous 'official' AHAC, but will not rely on housing administration for coordination or scheduling meetings. When necessary, we will invite housing administration to provide input and feedback to committee inquiries.

Please review our housing recap for other details.
