UCSA Graduate/Professional Student Health Insurance Campaign

Improve Graduate Student Health Insurance

In the 1980s, University of California Graduate Student Health Insurance Plans (GSHIPs) were created through campus-based referenda. Currently, each campus bids for their own healthcare plan which has led to gaps between premiums and/or coverage on the different UC campuses. A systemwide committee is looking at how to improve GSHIP for students.  In order to ensure that the systemwide committee is going to make positive changes to GSHIP, the University of California Student Association (UCSA) needs students like you to share your experience with GSHIP.
This spring, UCSA is working to improve GSHIP at campuses across the state, prioritizing benefit packages that have:
  • Reciprocity within the UC system (would allow graduate students to utilize their medical plan on any UC campus)
  • Mental Health Care Coverage
  • COBRA
  • Affordable & Quality Dependent Coverage
  • Quality coverage for students researching abroad
  • Ability to choose own doctors

Right now, we need testimonials about students' current experiences with GSHIP.  Please, tell us your story about GSHIP through our online testimonial and send this update to your friends.  Learn more about our campaign here and sign up for UCSA's activist listserv to get campaign updates.
